The A1 is the principal road linking to the dual carriageway A696 leading

The A68/A696 provides a direct road to the airport.

From the south:
Drive North on the A1, the road by-passes Newcastle City Centre as it
connects with the A696 to the Airport.
From the west:
The A69 links with the A1 and then the A696, to Newcastle International Airport
By Metro / Rail
The Metro fast transit system is a convenient way of travelling to the Airport from within Tyne and Wear, which includes the city centres and mainline railway stations at Newcastle and Sunderland
The Airport Metro station is immediately adjacent to the passenger terminal. The journey takes 23 minutes from Newcastle Central Station and services are provided up to every 7 minutes.

By Rail
Newcastle Central station is a principal mainline station on the Great North East Railway line with direct services from London and Scotland.
Direct services on the Metro fast transit system link Newcastle Central Station with the Airport, with a journey time of 23 minutes and services up to every 7 minutes. The Metro station at the Airport is directly adjacent to the terminal building.
Sky Express service 737 offers direct connections daily to and from Durham Tees Valley Airport, Darlington Train Station and Darlington Town Hall, allowing onward connections throughout the North including Durham, Newcastle and York.
The dedicated bus service is free for air passengers.
